Full color commission for :icondramiradarkthorn: as a gift to :iconmiss-mex:--this is her original character. Had some fun with this one.

Also, this is the first time I did the entire piece, from start to finish, in Manga Studio 5, thanks to a neat discovery...I found out you can apply a stabilizer to the freeform lasso (normally something reserved for brushes to make line art easier), which makes drawing selections for cel shades come out much smoother than they do with Photoshop's lasso. This in turn eliminates my need to use PS's pen tool for anything really. Between that and the fact that MS5 has several filters and blending modes that mimic Photoshop's (which enabled me to add a little glow effect the way I usually do), I'm starting to see myself using PS less and less, and MS5 more and more.

While I'm very happy with how this turned out, it's throwing me for a loop that people are saying this is my best work ever...but, if you say so!

I like the composition of this piece, as well as the use of light and dark. The highights really set her off well. I'm glad to hear that you found some extra tools that help out, too. Anything that can simplify the construction process is good- gives you more time to focus on the art part of the equation.

Thanks! Yeah, it's great when the client has a clear idea of what they want, it makes interpreting it much easier and much more fun.

Although switching between Photoshop and Manga Studio is no big deal, it is a lot more efficient being able to do it all in one place, and like you said, makes it easier to focus on the overall vision of the piece. I'm eager to learn even more about the software...I recommend it to anyone into digital drawing.

wow this was a surprise for sure!!
I'm very happy with what you did with her, the attention to the details (i really like the reflection and lights on the blades) and how you illustrated her in your own style and still keeping the attitude and features. I can see the care and work you put into this, thank you very much. She looks so badass!!!

I'm really glad you like it! It's always a little daunting taking on the challenge of drawing someone else's character, doubly so in this case. I'm glad I've done justice to your original design. She was a lot of fun to draw!

Thanks for the like on my FB page as well. :)

Looks good. :w00t: Feels like an animation still out of one of the current Marvel animation series.

Interesting discovery with Manga Studio.
Usually my lines are just thick enough that I don't have to worry about "jaggies" when filling in bases in Photoshop. ;P I also use Magic Wand/Lasso a lot less after I learned you can just Ctrl+click your layer thumbnail to get a 'perfect selection' of that whole area.

Thanks! I have no patience for painting so I figure I'll just focus on getting better with this here cel shading thing. :D

The thing with me is that my hand is not really all that steady, especially when using a digital canvas. I can work around it while inking (mostly with repeat strokes), and flatting is easy enough. But when it came to making selections for my highlights and shadows, the lasso was at the mercy of my hand. That is until I made that little discovery. Before, when it came to making larger cels, such as the highlight on her thigh, I would have needed to make it with PS's pen tool to keep it from going wobbly on me. But now I can stabilize, and thus go a lot faster.

Of course, it would help if I learn to steady my hand better, but the Surface is a pretty small...well, surface to work on so I have only so much leverage...anyway, rambling aside, stabilization helps. Maybe someday I won't need it. But for now, I'm happy.

I'm with Gideon on this one, her face is fantastic!  Very nice work man.  Also, that is really cool about Manga Studio 5!  It really sounds like those new tools and features that you are discovering are making your life a lot easier and allowing you to pull off new techniques :D

That's why it's important to never give up. Just when you think you know everything you'll ever want to learn, boom, you stumble across some new approach that changes everything. :D Glad you like!

Thank you for taking my commission! MeX is one of my best friends and a really special lady to me. I think your art style is so cool and how you draw women is super sexy. I thought Anya would look great drawn by you and thought MeX would like it also. I think this came out great. You're wonderful to work with; attentive, polite, you show WIP's without me having to ask, you care about what the client wants and definitely work hard. Thank you. I can't wait to have you draw Dramira someday soon. My friend deserved a present before I got something for myself, though.

I'm grateful for the opportunity! I'm especially happy now that we've gotten accustomed to how we communicate as far as commissions go, so when the time comes, I should be able to give you a worthy illustration of Dramira. :)
