A practice piece for today. I stumbled across a neat way of shading with Sketchbook Pro's default marker and soft eraser tools that worked rather nicely here. Practically murdered my Surface's battery drawing and shading this...

Also thinking of trying larger, more expressive eyes on my characters.

Interesting blade design! The softer shading works well for the metallic form of it.

You know something? That blade design is interesting, sure, but the more I imagine it in use, the more I realize how useless it would be in combat. It's so short, the user would have no real leverage to strike a forceful blow. It would be more of a danger to her than anything.

Still, I like how the shading turned out. ^^; Thanks!

Thanks! The Surface is no ordinary tablet...it's a fully functional Windows 8 computer with a screen that is as close as one can get (for now anyway) to having a portable Cintiq. And it helps that I have a Wacom Feel driver installed, and I was using a special Wacom stylus on it too, so it feels exceptionally smooth and accurate to draw on. Much better than some Android tablet or iPad.

Right, I get it. I don't like what I've seen of Win 8 ( we set it up as part of a triple-boot OS on a desktop PC at work and the unanimous opinion was: eugh! ) but if it can support stuff like this in touch format, then most impressive.

I don't want to sound like a corporate shill, but I don't really have a problem with Win8 so far...I guess I have low standards for my OS. And the touch functions are fantastic, at least on the Surface. I can't speak for other Win8 tablets.

Hey that's cool. I'm sure it's great running in the environment it was designed for, but I reckon the desktop version was a few steps too far. I'll keep it in mind for future though, if/when I ever do go mobile. ;)

Hey, nothing wrong with larger, more expressive eyes! That was Walt Disney's m.o. after all! I really like your shading on this piece, btw!

Thanks! I spent a lot of time on this...probably a lot more than I should have. But I think it turned out okay. :)
