Well, it's a new month, so I might as well do some kind of update.
I have tentatively drifted away from comic pursuits (personal ones, anyway). I just don't have a lot of motivation in that direction. The more I think about how time waits for no man and I'm not getting any younger, my interest in learning how to build video games isn't going away, so I have been spending what time I could exploring new ways to make game graphics. I've got creating character sprites and even animating them reasonably under control...I'm not great at it, but I can create functional sprites. I can always get better, but what I really want to work on is making backgrounds and tile sets. My ability to design areas for said sprites to explore is as stunted as ever. That's why I've been slow uploading art lately; all I'm working on is practicing game graphics and the same comic commission that I'm struggling to finish (I wanted to have it done by the end of February but that didn't work out). I know what I really need to do is focus on characters, make the crappiest backgrounds I can just so I can focus on getting playable game builds together and improve my skills instead of letting the background issue hold me back. It's so hard...
I really don't have a lot to report, but I needed a new journal entry since the previous one was outdated.
I guess I'll also mention I bought my son a 3DS the other day...and as I looked into everything it can do, I've come to realize that it's quite the nice little device. I might have to get one for myself.

This is an open forum if you want to discuss anything neat or interesting going on in your world as well, if you want.
On the 3DS front, we're finally seeing more games being localized from Japan. There was a real dearth of games for a while, and I think Nintendo needs to do everything it can to encourage more localizations. Also, more Western 3d parties need to join in, but they don't seem interested at the moment.
I was looking through the 3DS' library and I saw quite a few games I was interested in playing (the library seems better suited for a gamer like me than for my son, which might be a problem). Mostly from Japanese third parties, but those are the games that have traditionally been my favorites anyway. The game industry landscape is changing a lot these days but I don't think Nintendo has as much to worry about on their handheld front as, say, Sony does. Still, the 3DS is certainly not the phenomenon that the original DS was (At least the 3DS is totally backwards compatible with the DS' cartridge library. At least one game developer understands the value of BC, unlike Sony and the PS4/Vita...)
I'd be surprised if you hadn't already thought all this through but hey I thought I would just echo it.
That's one of the game concepts I REALLY want to make once I have the skills to do so. It might even be on the top of the list.
Jet Dancer meanwhile would make an excellent simple twitch running game to get things going for you. In fact I can imagine she'd fit a number of these types of games well.
The big challenge I guess is just doing it.
Regardless of quality, complexity and finesse. Just get something out there and the next bit will be easier right? Good luck man, I'm rooting for you!
