Artist's Comments
Jet Dancer, rocking her new pants look in full color. The pinnacle of her design, just another look to add to her repertoire or something she should leave in the closet? You decide.
Well, not really. Most likely I'll just draw her in a variety of looks, and the hot pants will be her primary look (as displayed in the model sheet). On the other hand, maybe not. Eh. Who knows. Thanks for looking, crits and comments always welcome. Jet Dancer (c) Jonathan Price UPDATE: Took some of Okay, I've got this out of my system...back to commissions. For real this time. CommentsWhoa! Now that's rockin'.
-- I'm a gamer and an art collector. I go by Soul Train, and a host of other sexy people. I must admit, I like this look a lot. Seeing it in color makes me feel stronger about it.
-- "Real artists ship." --Steve Jobs [link] Yes, this should be her main outfit. Seriously.
-- --Blue #Madmen-Asylum Join the Madness. I'm Tootie in the deviantART Cartoon Obsessions Crew! Me like! Jet's sporting the sporty look really well with this piece. Nothing against her other outfits, but this presents a different kind of appeal and allows Jet to both both heroic and stylish in a unique way (at least that's what I think). It looks like you also put a bit more emphasis on her fit figure with this drawing, and both the coloring (especially shading) and pose do a good job of bringing Jet's qualities together.
To top it all off, the background, albeit blurry, really looks nice. While clearly not a focus of this picture, it looks like you're definitely becoming more comfortable putting a little scenery together than in the past. It's a bit of a bummer that you decided to blur it out, but don't worry. Jet by herself more than keeps it from becoming a significant complaint this time around. I don't know where Jet's wardrobe is heading, but I wouldn't mind seeing this outfit every now and then, to be honest. That and I think this is a really good piece overall. One of my favorites of the character so far, although I recently learned that my time away from dA made me miss a good piece or two for Ms. Jet. Another great example of your ability to showcase your OCs with an impact. |

First of all... Let me congratulate you on doing a great job tackling a background. Often, doing a background is something a lot of artists gloss over, and you went all out, creating something that was actually a little difficult.
A little heavy on the blur - but I get it... You're emphasizing distance. Speaking of blur, the streaks of color coming off her glowing bands on "her" left arm are pretty cool, and I like your overall approach to show motion by having some color strategically extend from various parts of her body.... It implies motion. I don't think it's the "Right" approach though. The edges of the character are too crisp to be "moving". Plus the angle you have those colors that show the motion - do not coincide with the angle she "should" be moving in if you look at the rocket flares in her boots. I give you points for originality. I haven't seen that approach before, and while not "flawlessly" executed, it's cool looking for sure...
Ok, now especially on this note - i've really got no room to talk, but notice it anyways. That anatomy, specifically the typical favorite part (though mine's the Legs personally)... "Her" right (our left) breast is obviously fuller and larger than the other one... I know perspective... But still... It's not quite the same size.
Now i'm jealous at how well you drew her hands... But i'm curious as to why "her" right hand seems larger... Is it really that much closer to our camera view that it should be larger? The depth of the picture seems to indicate that one is only about a foot closer at max.
Next up i'm gonna hit shading. I think you did a superb job showing that shading on her body, but do you feel the shading in her hair is consistent with the light source you used on her body? Sure the top portion (above her shoulders and extended arm) is lighter, but that "shine" stripe you've got going across doesn't fit Bro. Nor do the highlights for the undersides of her bangs.
Last lil' poke, is the gradient for the bg's sky... I would've done some smudging to make that darker blue look like clouds instead of just a stripe at the bottom that's a dark blue shade... The underside of that gradient could use some lovin', and maybe some undershading to show the clouds billowed a bit... I'd tease you about that city, and how none of it is shaded really, but i'm too darned impressed with the level of detail you put into it, to give you any lip about it.
Overall, WIN. Definitely. You continue to amaze me with your talent and skill man. The picture IS dynamic, and those "Kim Possible" lips are fun, and Jet is a very alluring OC.
