I really like the colours and her boots and the sash though. All nice touches to showcase her personality.
The key thing is power on through and get them done, worry about refinements once the whole roster is complete right? Momentum is paramount. I'm trying to do a bunch of characters in much the same vein but I'm just doing them all first then I'll post them here (though nothing on the scale of your WCL project of course!)
But on the other hand, I wouldn't want anyone to be afraid to give me feedback...for some reason my WCL project is overall less interesting to my watchers than my other work (if the number of comments and favorites are any indication) and I'm continuously perplexed as to why that is.
If I had to guess the reason why WCL is less attractive I would say it's because with your other work there's a clear protagonist who gets development. WCL has so many characters you barely have time to draw one of each with a bio.
As a result it's not as easy to invest interest in any one focal point. Now that probably isn't the case with the actual story but for the purposes of your dA submissions I think that's true.
I've been thinking a lot about that, actually...I might be making some changes to what I do in the future, or at least what I post here.
I think they simply need time to be developed. But, like any large team (X-men, JLA, Avengers) of colourful personalities it probably pays to put a small handful front and centre to give the audience somewhere to focus. You probably know these characters inside out, but that's going to be a really long task if you want to tell all their stories. Instead of trying to fit everything into one epic tale (which would spiral into an unwieldy story pretty fast) I'd urge you to slice and dice the universe up into strands and see who it foregrounds as a result.
The thing to bear in mind is this is never wasted effort. So what if knowing what Helene Domino's favourite film is never makes it into the story? So long as *you* know, that character will live and breathe much more realistically in their actions than a flat plot-centric stand in. It's about crafting your universe, and sometimes the fine detail is never seen by any but the craftsman, but it's still there, still a part of the finished piece.
But just like a busy scene with forty characters zooming around, it can be hard to know where to look. Your small band of protagonists and antagonists draw focus and help make a coherent story instead of just a vast but confusing canvas.
Just my two cents, I hope it's food for thought at least and I really look forward to seeing how you shape and present WCL in the months to come.
