I don't doodle enough. Filled up this page of my sketchbook on the way to church this morning. Hope to do something like this every day from now on.
I look at drawing like exercise. For it to have an effect, you have to do it frequently, but you also have to make it fun or you'll lose interest in it. Quality will come as the habit gets stronger.
I used to draw cartoon animals all the time as a kid. It took years before I got into humans.
I was also showing my daughter how one can easily design a cartoon character starting with a basic shape...ovals brought about that professor dude among other things. It was a lot of fun!
Unfortunately I was running around so much today--and trying to get a commission done--that I didn't have time to doodle dump today. But I will again...though I think I'll post them to scraps in the future.
Fun stuff. Then again, I guess that's the appeal of doing doodles of this sort, since you CAN have more fun with them.
It's good to see something like this, since it shows that being able to be random and loose can be a useful way of working on your craft as an artist. Great little inspirational comment, too. I'd like to be able to take this close to heart and get back to the point of making drawing a hobby again.
So good work and thanks for the indirect (?) inspiration.
Thanks! I'm really trying hard to encourage myself, and a part of that is putting myself in a state where I feel better about what I create. Kind of a reset from trying to make every single thing I produce a glossy production and reminding myself what I love about drawing. If others are encouraged while they follow along on my journey, so much the better.
You would be the one to focus on the two little butts amongst all this stuff.
Seriously though, it is really liberating to just cut loose sometimes and get the hand moving. It'll definitely make a better, more confident artist out of you if you make it a regular habit.
I see cartoon animals...
Oh, and a strange professor-esque/scientist figure (top right)
