posted some of his pencil work and asked folks to ink it, and I didn't have much pressing to do today, so I decided to spend my last day before my return to class inking this up.
It felt good to dedicate myself to something demanding, something that I knew I could do fairly well. I have a bad habit of saying I will do something and then procrastinating until I forget, so I made myself focus hard on completing this today. I haven't worked on anything this complex in quite a while. I also love group shots like this. I need to draw more of them myself.
Angel Corps, original pencils (c) Digital inks by Photoshop CS4, Intuos 3, about 6 hours total
You got this done in 6 hours?! I still have to do Magnum, Corpus and Warpath on mine. How do you ink so fast? (I've been using your inking tutorial, great job on that BTW)
Thanks! I've been doing it for a long time, so I have my methods for saving time. I suggest working from general to specific. Do the major forms before you get into feathering, hatching, hair detail, etc. If you're using Photoshop, make use of actions to speed things up. I use actions for stroking paths and filling paths without having to bother with menus, and I'll often lay out many paths at once before filling any of them. Plus, it's just a process I'm used to, since virtually everything I've inked digitally since 2006 was done the same way.
I use GIMP 2.6. It's rather clunky in comparison to Photoshop (Or so I heard...), but it works. I start with a part of one character usually the head, followed by the arms, than the body, and finally the legs to finish, than move on to the next character on the picture.
To be honest, seeing your ink of this is kind of a demotivator when I do mine... I have a WIP if you want to see it.
